October 1, 2026 Weld County 1041 Hearing

On October 1, 2026, Weld County held its public hearing on Verdad’s 1041 WOGLA permit for the Century Pad (case 1041WOGLA26-0011). Seventeen neighbors were approved as formal intervenors, and many more residents, along with the Town of Windsor and Larimer County, submitted written comments asking for stronger protections. The permit was approved, but thanks to the testimony and comments from our community, it includes additional conditions of approval.

Thank you to everyone who wrote in, testified or showed up. The next step is the state’s review by the Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC), and your voice will matter there too.

November 3, 2025 community meeting

On November 3, 2025, Verdad Resources held its required pre-application community meeting for the Century Pad at the Windsor Community Center. In accordance with Weld County regulations, Verdad mailed notice of the meeting to residences within a half-mile radius of the proposed Century pad.

  • Turnout: Thanks to efforts by the Fort Collins Sustainability Group and others, the larger community was made aware of the meeting and showed up in force!
  • Format: Verdad set up an informal open-house display with poster boards showing project maps and information, plus two screens running corporate slides. Verdad employees were available to answer questions. No formal presentation or public Q&A was originally planned.
  • Topics raised: Residents pressed Verdad and the officials present on the proximity of the proposed wells to homes, why drilling couldn’t happen farther from residences, whether all residents within the notification radius had actually been notified, truck traffic routing, and what process, if any, residents have to stop the project.
  • Local officials in attendance: Brett Cavanagh, Director of Weld County’s Oil and Gas Energy Department, and representatives from the ECMC and the local water board attended the open house.
  • Response on process: Asked what residents could do to stop the project, Cavanagh said there is currently no formal way — the application must first be filed with the state through ECMC, after which opponents can file protests, with a final decision made by ECMC’s five governor-appointed commissioners. Per the account, neither Verdad nor the officials present had an answer to residents’ questions about well-to-residence proximity or the notification-radius complaint.
  • Verdad’s stated timeline: A poster labeled “Estimated Timeframe” displayed at the meeting showed construction starting in Q3 2026 and drilling starting in Q4 2026 (the timeline has since changed).

A special thanks to the Larimer Alliance for keeping a record of this meeting on their website, from which this summary was made.
